Who I am

My name is Lauren and I’m a registered counselling therapist candidate through the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists. I’ve had an interest in psychology and mental health since I was a teenager. I completed my undergrad at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, NB, where I majored in psychology and minored in sociology. I then concluded my Master of Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University, which allowed me to pursue a career in mental health and therapy. I completed my practicum at Armbrae Academy in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where I worked with adolescents. I have always advocated for mental health education and access. As a therapist I continue to try to break the stigma and provide an inclusive space for everyone to share and explore their experiences and feelings.

Who can benefit

Anxiety, burnout, and relationships issues (romantic or otherwise) are a few of many modern day challenges some people often deem as ‘not important enough’ for counselling. In turn, people find themselves struggling even more with these issues. I’m here to say that your feelings and challenges are valid, and I’m here to help explore and assist with these concerns. Through psychotherapy, we can identify the areas in your life causing distress and find ways to address, adjust or improve on these areas. There is no one size fits all when it comes to therapy. Through honest and non judgmental communication we can tailor an approach that fits you and your situation.

Areas of Practice

I take an eclectic approach to therapy that is shaped to each client's unique needs. The basis of my approach is derived from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy and Interpersonal Psychotherapy. Maintaining a client-centred approach is also essential as what we need from therapy can change weekly, therefore sessions are adaptable to what is needed at that moment while maintaining your original goal.

I incorporate psychoeducation regarding the mind body connection. This knowledge helps with overall understanding of symptoms anxiety, depression and burnout, among others, and how they can present physically. The mind-body connection also includes discussing lifestyle and habit changes that aid in relieving symptoms and improving overall functioning.

Anxiety, stress, depression, relationship difficulties, self-esteem, boundary issues, sexuality, healthy coping strategies, role transitions and routine adjustments
